Retreat Review: Cliffs of Moher Retreat

Looking for a get away?

The Cliffs of Moher retreat could be exactly what the doctor ordered. After a busy and enjoyable year of classes, I looked around for a break.. a weekend of yoga classes, clean eating, scenery, big blue ocean, limited to zero internet access, and hopefully something that would take me out of my comfort zone and teach me something new!

Found it! On the Friday evening the weekend took off with an expertly taught Yoga class by Michelle the owner who has travelled the world being taught and teaching Yoga. Even my Physio/Overly Analytical/Critical head couldn’t fault – no throwaway comments about what you are doing to or with your body – just clean simple restorative movement. Her voice is soothing and encouraging making you feel capable in class no matter what level of practice you have. The evening concluded with a music session – but having driven up from Clonmel to Lahinch there was only one thing I wanted – the sea, so on with the wetsuit for a splash about and I left them too it.

Tara is the lady who took me out of my comfort zone the following day..CLiffs antigravity yoga! Tara, again, safely, expertly took a group of first timers through some class poses in ‘the hammock’. Much easier to let go and ease into poses with a sturdy hammock taking your weight (trust them!) Felt like a child again out the back yard doing cartwheels and headstands. Can’t say enough about the instructor Tara, she’s the fittest granny I have ever met. Check her out! A sure sign that a yogic lifestyle can delay the effects of aging. Sold.

The weekend was a lovely combination of the above, with scenic walks (guided or do your own thing), raw and veggie food (beyond delicious) and chilled music sessions with Jack Harrison (beautiful voice). One of the main things I like about these kind of weekends is that you meet new people, our group had a couple from Venezuela, a lady from Achill, Galway, 2 friends from Dublin, a couple from Dublin, and a lady from Jerusalem who took a break from family life to see Ireland for 2 weeks (I told her Clonmel was a must!).
