Word of the Week: Hatha

Hatha Yoga is at the root of all yoga practices. It is the original form of Yoga which began 500 years BC. It is the type of Yoga we concentrate on in Performance Yoga with some Vinyasa blending our Asana/Postures together.

Hatha yoga refers to a set of physical exercises (known as asanas or postures), and sequences of asanas, designed to safely move your skin, fascia, muscles, and bones. It is thought that by practicing regularly, aside from the physical benefits, your energy levels will improve.

Hatha is also translated as ha meaning “sun” and tha meaning “moon.” This refers to the balance of masculine aspects—active, hot, sun—and feminine aspects—receptive, cool, moon—within all of us. Hatha yoga is a path toward creating balance and uniting opposites.
