Move • Prepare • Recover

Understand your body. Prepare for birth. Feel confident about recovery.

A practical, supportive 4-hour antenatal course with Chartered Physiotherapist Orla Crosse, designed to help you feel informed, prepared and confident throughout pregnancy, birth and the early postnatal period.

This is a gently active course where you will learn and practise practical movement, breathing and positioning strategies for labour, understand how to support your body during pregnancy, and learn how to approach postnatal recovery and returning to exercise.

We’ll also cover essential physio relevant baby-care information to help you feel more prepared for those first weeks with your baby.

It is suitable at any stage of pregnancy.

WHAT WE’LL COVER

🧘‍♀️ 9:00–10:00 — Antenatal Yoga & Movement

Start the morning with a relaxing class, an hour of pregnancy-friendly movement designed to help you connect with your changing body.

We’ll explore:

  • Gentle mobility and movement
  • Strength and stability during pregnancy
  • Breathing and relaxation

No previous yoga experience is needed. Mats provided.

🤰 10:00–12:00 — Prenatal Considerations

A practical session focusing on prenatal aches and pains and what you can do about them, labour preparation and the physical skills that can help you feel more confident approaching birth.

We’ll cover:

Pregnancy & movement

  • Common physical changes during pregnancy
  • Managing everyday aches and discomforts
  • Exercise and movement considerations
  • Looking after your pelvic floor

Preparing for the different stages of labour

  • Breathing and relaxation during a timed contraction
  • Back massage and counter-pressure
  • Rhythmic rocking on the birthing ball
  • Upright and gravity-assisted positions
  • Positions that can facilitate opening of the pelvic outlet
  • Side-lying, kneeling, upright and other birth positions
  • Breathing and pelvic-floor release
  • Understanding pushing techniques

Perineal prep!

  • What perineal massage is
  • When it may be appropriate
  • How it can be incorporated into preparation for birth

The aim is not to teach one “perfect” way to give birth – as there is none! Each birth is so very unique. Instead, you’ll learn a range of practical tools so you can make informed choices and adapt to what feels right for you and your birth situation.

🌿 12:00–1:00 — Postnatal Recovery & Baby Care

The final hour looks beyond birth — helping you understand what your body may need during recovery while also preparing you for caring for your new baby.

Postnatal recovery

  • What to expect from your body after birth
  • Early recovery and rehabilitation
  • Pelvic-floor-friendly movement
  • Returning to exercise after pregnancy and birth
  • Building strength gradually
  • Recognising when you may benefit from further assessment or support

Baby care & development

  • Safe sleep and the importance of back to sleep
  • Tummy time and why it matters
  • Supporting head control and rolling
  • Understanding plagiocephaly (flat head)
  • Recognising torticollis (tight neck muscles)
  • Practical advice around baby equipment

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

This course is suitable for women at any stage of pregnancy who want practical preparation for pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period.

Whether this is your first baby or you’ve been through pregnancy before, the course is designed to give you practical information and skills that you can take into your own experience.

You do not need previous yoga or exercise experience.

IS THIS A REPLACEMENT FOR HOSPITAL ANTENATAL CLASSES?

No.

This course is designed to complement, rather than replace, your maternity hospital or midwife-led antenatal education.

Hospital antenatal classes cover a broader range of topics around labour, birth, newborn care and maternity services. This course has a particular focus on movement, physical preparation, labour skills, postnatal recovery and practical baby care.

HSE antenatal education also recommends learning about labour, birth, supports and choices, and preparing for your new baby.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely.

Bring water and anything you would normally use for comfort during exercise.

A NOTE ON INDIVIDUAL CARE

This course provides general education and practical skills. Pregnancy, birth and recovery are different for every woman, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach.

The information covered is intended to help you understand your options and feel more confident, while working alongside the advice of your own maternity and healthcare team.

If you have individual concerns, you may require an assessment or personalised advice.

Can I claim the cost through my health insurance?

You may be able to claim towards the cost of this course, depending on your health insurance policy and the benefits available to you. Please check directly with your insurer before booking. We will provide an invoice/receipt for your records.
